My eldest son has food allergies and has dealt with them almost his entire life. Since the time he started leaving our house to go to preschool, he has worn a Medic Alert sports band (cool for boys).
We always felt that it was important for him to be able to be independent while dealing with a life threatening condition. Some things that have helped us feel more comfortable: teaching him the “no label, no thank you” rule, purchasing a Medic Alert tag, and most of all educating our family, friends, and teachers.
Note: I was not compensated by Medic Alert to write this post. I have food allergies too, but it’s more “fun” to find cool things for my kid! If they could come up with a good way for boys to carry their own epi-pens that would be sweet too! The man-purse is really not a good option for boys! 🙂
