Tips for a Successful Leprechaun Drawing

If you’re doing this activity with a large group or in a classroom, try drawing on the board or on a big piece of paper so everyone can see. For smaller groups, read the directions aloud and draw along with the kids. Some older or more advanced readers might even enjoy tackling the whole project on their own!

Tip: The Leprechaun I drew on the board was while the students were doing a draft in their journals. Before they moved on to the final copy, they glued the directions into their journals, which made it easy for them to follow along.

This project really brings out the pride in kids—it took about an hour from start to finish, and they loved every minute of it!

Ready for the Final Copy? Let’s Go!

It’s time to gather all your supplies and get ready to make your Leprechaun come to life. With their draft in hand and the written directions by their side, your little artists will be ready to create their final masterpiece.

Extra Tips:

  • Perspective: Tell your students that their Leprechaun is posing for a picture in front of a rainbow or some grass with his arms out wide. They can color the space above and below his arms to make it pop!
  • Shades of Green: Green comes in so many shades—try using regular green, yellow-green, or blue-green to see what works best.
  • Rainbow Fun: If your students want to add a big rainbow behind their Leprechaun, have them draw it on the back of the paper first. Then, they can trace it on the front to create a perfect background.
  • Shamrock Drawing: Here’s a neat trick—draw a heart, turn the paper, draw another heart, and repeat. You’ll end up with a charming shamrock!

Now you’re all set to draw the cutest Leprechaun ever! Have fun, and don’t forget to check out our other Directed Drawings for more creative fun.
