Rainbow Loom Bracelet Tutorial
Rainbow Loom is really for everyone! Boys, Girls, Grandmas, Moms, and Dads!
It’s recommended for ages 8 + and may take some extra effort from mom or dad to get started.
The first one we tried was a complete flop!
Until we started watching video tutorials and now we have created our own video too.
Watch. Pause. Watch again. Go back. Watch. Pause… you get the picture!

Rainbow Loom for Boys
My youngest son cannot get enough of rainbow loom bands.
He even shipped 18 rainbow loom bracelets off to his cousins and gave 20 away as gifts to classmates and we still have more!!
At Christmas his stocking was full of new bands (scented), his brother gave him some (metallic), and his Gram found camouflage loom bands. A total success in his eyes!

Don’t have a Rainbow Loom at home?
At our house we already owned one loom, but we had more people who wanted to “loom” at the same time.
So, my husband and son created a DIY Loom, a DIY hook, and a rubber band holder.
Supplies: Two nails and a block of wood.
You could use smaller nails or thumb tacks.
I’ve even heard some kids can do a fishtail design on their fingers or two pencils!
We even tried a serving fork, but the rubber bands kept popping off.

After just 3 weeks of intense looming, my son’s hook snapped. I thought he must just have been really hard on it or that he was putting too much pressure on it, but it turns out he was not alone!

In the meantime, you can also use crochet hooks!
The metal or aluminum crochet hooks are super tough and they work great!
You can purchase them on-line here or at craft stores.
We’ve found that the sizes H and I hooks work best for us, but they come in all different sizes.

Do you have a Rainbow Loom for your big kids, but your little guys are interested in it too?
Rainbow Looms are great for patterning, counting, letter recognition, color identification, sorting, following directions, and fine motor skills!
Tori is back sharing how her 4 year old “plays” with the loom.
She said, “My little boy doesn’t quite understand how to make the bracelets yet, but he loves to use the band and hooks.”
Here are some easy games for preschoolers to play with the loom…
1. Parent calls out a few colors and child finds those color loom bands.
2. Child uses the hook and bands to make a simple pattern like ABABA or ABCABC or ABBABBA.
3. Capital letters. Use the pegs to make a grid, like a small geoboard. Call out letters and have your child stretch and pull the rubber-bands. For example: H, L, M, N, T, W, X
4. More patterning: Draw a pattern and have your child copy it on the loom.
Not only does your child feel like a Big Kid, using the loom becomes educational!
