Imagine you’re in 3rd grade and you’re nervous about your first standardized test. You walk in on test day to see that your teacher is your personal cheerleader. Not only is she waiting for you at the door with pom-poms, but she’s also covered each desk with mini cheerleaders.
Mrs. Hunt created these special notes to inspire her students. She recognized that each student needed a personal pre-test boost. I have a feeling these will be treasured keepsakes.
In Virginia, children start taking standardized tests in 3rd grade. It can be super overwhelming for them to take these long, intense tests. There’s nothing like knowing your teacher has your back.
When children come to school they need to know that they are in a safe place with people who truly care for them. Mrs. Hunt has created this type of environment for 40 years.
I think we all want to look back on our careers and remember that we were significant in the life of someone. Teachers have the power to be that important person. Many of us had teachers who inspired us, believed in us, and made us feel that we could do anything.
Mrs. Hunt is one of those amazing teachers and she is retiring this year. She’s leaving a 40 year legacy of working with children. She has touched lives of over 1000 children and their families. Her dedication and quality of teaching has inspired countless teachers. Anyone who has worked with her is inspired by her hard work, dedication, love, and high expectations of her students.
On her signs she wrote personalized messages:
Hi Susan! I love how you are using your math brain and showing your work. I know you will rock the SOL.
Go Alvaro! Be a rock star and show me your math skills! I know you will rock the SOLs!
Hey Yocelin! I love how you round numbers to the nearest ten, hundred, and thousand! Use your strategies girl! I know you will rock the SOL!
How to create your own personal test cheerleader:
- Take a picture of yourself.
- Print it.
- Glue on cardstock (pink).
- Write your personal note on the cardstock, outline it.
- Leave space at feet for a tab.
- Cut around the picture, note, and
- Add extra cardstock on the back (if needed) to keep it standing.
- Tape to student desks.
