Welcome to Scouting!

Do you have a Boy Scout, Girl Scout, or child in Awanas?  Are they earning badges?  Are you trying to figure out how to place on the patches?  When I was a child, I had a drawer full and not one on my uniform.

The key is to remember that the sash is not worn all the time and doesn’t need to be indestructible or have badges sewn on.  So? What’s the trick to putting on Scout Badges?  Scroll down and find out below.

How to Attach Scout Patches

How To Attach Boy Scout Patches

Here’s the trick to putting the badges on the boy scout sash without sewing…

Grab your glue gun (click here).  That’s it!

We love our glue gun and use it for everything from gingerbread houses, STEM challenges to DIY Halloween costumes.

Need a Kid Glue Gun Tutorial?  We have that too… Kids and Glue Guns!

Why does this work for attaching badges on the Boy Scout sash?

Most scouts only wear their sashes on special occasions and so they rarely need to be washed.  I also prefer to hand wash the sash anyway if it is needed.

Other No-Sew Options:

E600 glue (industrial strength)

Badge Magic

Alene’s No Sew Fabric Glue

Low-temp glue gun

Thanks to another experienced Scout mom sharing her secret with me, I’m happy to pass it along to you!  No need to spend all of your precious time sewing them on!  Side note:  Due to how hard they are on their shirts, I do take the time on their shirts to sew or have patches professionally sewn on. That said, I am not above using a huge safety pin to keep them in place when needed!

Boy Scout Badge Placement on Sash

If you’re new to putting on Boy Scout Merit Badge patches start about 4 inches down from the fold.

All Eagle required patches go in the middle and all other merit badges go on the sides.  The order does not matter.  This is how our troop requests patches to be ordered.  If your troop does not have this requirement, go for it!
