How to Cut Curly Pool Noodles

Looking for a fun “twist” to use in an art sculpture or party decor? Look no further than Pool Noodles! It seems that every Dollar Store, craft store, and Five Below has them outside their stores in the summer. I’ve even used them for waterproof floral foam. We had fun learning how to cut them this way and even turned them into sculpture!

serrated knife (steak knife)

How to Cut Curly Pool Noodles:

1. Choose the length of pool noodle you wish to use. The ones pictured above were 12 inches long. Use your knife like a mini saw and slice right through the noodle.

* For the purposed of the picture, I marked off the noodle in 1 inch sections with a permanent marker. I don’t feel that this is necessary for you.

2. Start your knife (top photo) at an angle and start slowly sawing back and forth from the top. Keep turning your noodle and slicing through to the opening in the middle. Slice and turn, slice and turn.

3. When you reach the bottom, go back and start at the top again. Each noodle should give you 2-3 curly pieces. If you mess up, don’t worry. Save the little pieces, especially if you’re using it for decor or sculpture. My curly pieces were far from perfect, but that added to the uniqueness of the “art”.
