How to carve a Spider-Man Pumpkin

Ready to wow your kids and neighbors with a Spider Man Pumpkin? I still remember making my kids a Mickey Mouse pumpkin when they were little…. they told me it would be fun, they said the kids would like it, they said it was a fun family tradition. Well, not so much! It wore me out. Now that the kids are bigger, we did actually enjoy ourselves carving this Spider Man Pumpkin.

Halloween Pumpkin Carving Supplies:

pumpkin knife (the little saw tooth knives work the best)
permanent marker
metal fork
newspaper
spoon
trashcan
bright pumpkin light

Tip: Before you can begin, you need to open up the top of your pumpkin and clean out the seeds.

Lay your pumpkin on it’s back.
Draw one large circle for the outer edge.
Put a small dot in the middle of the circle, almost like a nose. It will be what you connect the web to and line the eyes up.
Now, draw eyes. They look almost like sailboat sales. I used a piece of scrap paper (Photo #1), sketched it out, cut it and then traced it onto each side of the nose.

With your permanent marker, draw vertical lines out from the dot in the middle to start forming the web.
Then draw the lines to connect from the middle out to the edge, almost like a fan.
Then, we went back around and drew the horizontal lines.

In order to make the lines even I marked out / measured it and then connected the dots around the entire face. We found the pumpkin very difficult and bumpy to write on. See below picture for an up close on the lines we drew. It’s not perfect, but it works.

4. We used our pumpkin knife to cut out the eyes. Then the side of the fork to “score” the web on the pumpkin face.

You are not cutting through the entire pumpkin. Scraping it with the fork, takes the outer skin off the pumpkin. This allows the light to shine through. We went over our lines several times.

Place your bright light inside your pumpkin and enjoy!
If the lines are not showing up, you need to do one or both of the following: go over the web again and again with the fork OR clean out the insides behind the face a little bit more. The goal is to get the light shining for all to see.
