S’mores with Kids. Are you looking for a fun family tradition to share with your loved ones on Valentine’s Day? How about some indoor s’mores? Have your kids make the cute I Love You Sign Language card while you get the supplies together.
While this may not be our idea of a “fun date” on Valentine’s Day, I think most parents realize that you’re more likely to spend it with your children then out on a date. Our kids love to spend quality time with us. It fills up their little love buckets. We try to spend time with them and find another time to celebrate Valentines Day as a couple. We still share kid-watching duties with a friend so that we can get a night out.
Follow our tips below for a successful event!
- Decide on your fire source. There are s’more’s makers, fondue pots, tea lights, and Sterno cans that you can use if you don’t have a fireplace. We’ve used Sterno and it works great.
- Gather your supplies. Graham crackers, marshmallows, and Dove heart chocolates (pictured) or Hershey’s bars. Wooden Skewers.
- On Valentine’s Day, set up your food and fire source in a safe area. Soak your skewers in water before use (read package directions). Have a bowl of water handy in case of flaming marshmallows (see below).
- Discuss safe handling procedures with your children. For example: “If your marshmallow catches on fire, do not wave it around the house!”
- Enjoy!
