Tissue Paper Sun Catcher.  I just spent some time with my awesome nieces.  They love to make crafts and they’d seen the movie Inside Out.  We combined the two and made a coloring pages sun catcher.  I’m telling you, this is genius. So simple.  I love the LEGO head we made, but that took a little effort on my part to get the head to look right.  This project = no brainpower needed!

Tissue Paper Sun Catcher by tracing a coloring page. Easy! Joy from Inside Out.

Supplies:

  • Tissue paper assortment ( a little for crafts and a little for gift giving)
  • Contact Paper (clear sticky back plastic)
  • Scissors
  • coloring book (we used this one from Inside Out)
  • sharpie marker or other permanent marker
  • regular tape

Directions:

Step 1:  Choose the page you’d like to trace from the coloring book.  Cut a piece of contact paper to fit the page size.  Tape it down with the unlined/plastic part facing up.  Start tracing with your permanent marker.  When finished, take contact paper out of the book and remove paper backing.

Step 2:   Now turn the contact paper so that the sticky side is up.  Tape it down to your workspace.  Rip or cut up little pieces of tissue paper.  It’s okay to go outside of the lines on this project.  Note:  The lines will start to disappear as you put the tissue paper on.  They are still there and will be visible when you turn it over.

Adding tissue paper to make a sun catcher with a design right out of a coloring book.

Step 3:  After you’ve placed all of your tissue paper pieces on the sticky part.  Take another piece of contact paper and stick the two sticky back pieces together.  It makes it easier to handle.  See below.  Cut around your design with scissors.

The final step on this Sun Catcher. Great project for Tweens. Trace, decorate, cut, display.

You can literally do this with any coloring page or design.  The older the child, the more intricate they might like the design.  This was fun to do with a tween-ager (age 12, girl).  She has high expectations for her art work and enjoyed making it look spectacular.
